FULFILLING AN OBLIGATION – THE DUTY OF DA’WAH
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, “Convey (my teachings) to the people even if it were a single sentence” (Sahih al-Bukhari 3461).
We learn from the evidence above the importance Allah and His Messenger (SAS) place upon Da’wah and calling others to the truth of Islam. It is a communal obligation (Fard Kifaayah) upon the ummah. It is also an individual obligation (Fard ‘Ayn) upon each individual, according to their level of ability and knowledge.
So fulfill your obligation of Da’wah by making a contribution to WhyIslam SoCal today!
Who speaks better than someone who calls people to God, does what is right, and says, ‘I am one of those devoted to God’? Surah Fussilat 41:33
Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guided.
Surah Nahl 16:125
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever calls others to guidance will have a reward like the rewards of those who follow him, without that detracting from their reward in any way. And whoever calls others to misguidance will have a burden of sin like the burden of those who follow him, without that detracting from their burden in any way.”(Narrated by Muslim, 2674)
Field Da’wah Events
WhyIslam Southern California conducts bi-weekly Street Da’wah Events in various communities.
In 2021, WhyIslam Southern California launched their new da’wah initiative “The Urban Outreach Project” , a program that aims to provide dawah initiatives and resources to African-American and Latino communities that are typically under served by dawah efforts.
As misinformation and lies about Islam and Muslims has become rampant after 9/11, it was necessary for WhyIslam to hold information booths across America to talk to the public about the truth of Islam and Muslims.
The information booths provide a space for
1 on 1 educational conversations on Islam.
WhyIslam SoCal holds information booths on college campuses, shopping centers, festivals, and even busy street corners. The largest information booth is at the LA Times Festival of Books, the largest book festival in the US with over 150,000 in attendance!
WhyIslam has created several information materials such as Pamphlets, books, and banners to help the public learn about the popular topics frequented asked by the public.
Some of these topics are the meaning of the Hijab in Islam, story of Malcolm X, and the month of Ramadan. Materials are also translated into other languages such as Spanish and Mandarin.
WhyIslam gives out all their information materials for free at their information booths.
WhyIslam places billboards across the country to dispel misconceptions and educate the public about Islam. Each billboard is placed periodically as a campaign with a special message.
All the billboards display WhyIslam’s hotline 1-877-WHYISLAM, where anyone can ask any questions or request more information.
WhyIslam Southern California placed a billboard with the special message of the advice of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) on dealing with infectious diseases such as the Coronavirus. The billboard campaign gained 34 callers requesting more info in just one month
